Jean Ann Bennett

April 7, 1933 — April 27, 2024

Omaha, Nebraska

Jean Ann (Helmberger) Bennett was born on April 7th, 1933 in Burke, South Dakota, to Andrew and Kathryn Helmberger. She graduated from Burke High School in 1951. After graduation she moved to Norfolk, Nebraska where she attended and graduated from Beauty College. While attending college she met Willis Allan Bennett and they were married in October of 1952 at the Lucas Baptist Church in Lucas, South Dakota. Once married, they moved to a farm outside of Battle Creek, Nebraska. She became a very active member of the Methodist Church in Battle Creek. She opened a beauty salon there until her son Leslie Allan was born in 1955. At that time she decided to stay home with him and help grow the family farm. The family grew again with the birth of Bette Jean in 1956 and Beth Ann was born in 1958. They continued to raise stock cattle, milk cows, hogs and produced beans and corn until they decided to retire and they sold the farm in the spring of 1985. They then moved to the Florence area in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked as a nanny for a great family in Omaha for many years and they became a second family to her. She found her church family at the Presbyterian Church in Florence. She loved the church and the fellowship she found there.

Jean enjoyed playing cards with all of her friends, neighbors and family. She loved to embroider and sew. Jean had a love for music and playing the piano brought her great joy. She also was an avid baker, where she made many beautiful birthday and wedding cakes throughout the years. Jean was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillary. She was always the first person to offer up a prayer and give a hug to anyone who needed it. Her family brought her so much pride and joy. She truly treasured the moments that the family shared together.

Jean passed away on Saturday, April 27th, at the age of 91 in Bellevue, Nebraska surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents Kathryn & Andrew Helmberger; husband, Willis Allan Bennett; son, Leslie Allan Bennett; cousin, Lyle Smith: son-in-law Rod Fink; grandson, Andrew Fink; great-grandson Abraham Kuhnert-Hill; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bennett Denny.
