Steve Highland, beloved son, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 27, 2024, at the age of 57. Born on September 26, 1966, in Cambridge, NE, Steve was the cherished son of Elain Karen Highland and Raymond Glen Highland.
Steve spent his early years in Cambridge, NE, attending school, helping out at his parents’ grocery store, and painting the town with his spontaneity. After high school Steve joined the military, where he served honorably until being medically discharged. He furthered his education at Northwest Kansas Vo-Tech and graduated in 1988.
Known as a tech wizard, Steve excelled in various roles within the tech and computer world. He created his own tech company called Steve’s Computer Repair, where he helped people with various computer issues and created their business websites. He was definitely the first person any family member or friend would call to help them out of a computer bind.
Steve married Michelle Highland in 1988, and together they raised two wonderful daughters, Crystal Beechley and Jennifer Highland. His family was the center of his world, and he was a proud grandfather to his firstborn grandson, Parker Goodin, followed by Ryan Marolf, Madison Marolf, and the newest addition, Lincoln Beechley. He was so excited for Lincoln to be old enough to be his new fishing partner.
Beyond his technical prowess, Steve had a deep love for fishing, camping, and the great outdoors. He found joy and peace in nature, often spending his free time taking in a beautiful day.
Steve’s kindness and willingness to help others made a lasting impression on everyone he met. The outpouring of love and stories from his community is a testament to the positive impact he had on his neighbors and friends.
Steve is preceded in death by his grandparents Glen and Vera (Campbell) Highland, Alvin and Grace (Michals) Miller, and father Raymond “Pete” Highland. He is remembered by his mother Elain “Karen” Highland, brothers Chuck Highland, Doug (Lina) Highland, his “baby” sister Dianna (Jim) Moore, his daughters Crystal (Brandon) Beechley, Jennifer Highland, and grandchildren Parker Goodin, Ryan Marolf, Madison Marolf, and Lincoln Beechley.
In accordance with his wishes, Steve’s life will be celebrated, not mourned. He always said that life had taught him that when it is our time to leave this world, no one can stop it. We have one life to live. The material things we invest in are left behind only to be discarded. Making memories is what’s important. He wanted us to throw a party for the life he lived, drink a beer, dance, and remember the good times.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at a later date. Details of the service to be announced.
Steve’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a passion for life that will never be forgotten.
